The NASA4NASA collective presents 'Sham3dan', a dance performance that features dancers calling on the ghosts of those who came before them. They harness the magnetic fields created collectively during the performance.
This work draws on the history of the Sham3dan dance in Egypt and the changes it has undergone over the years. The performance considers the founding mothers of this dance as the spirits that have carried the tradition into the present day. The stories surrounding their lives often highlight the sacrifices made for dance.
'Sham3dan' examines power systems in choreography, showing the commitment and violence involved in its mastery. It also seeks to form new ways of remembering. Access to the performance is included with a Serralves ticket, priced at €15 for residents and €19 for non-residents, available from November 2 to 8. Tickets can be purchased at the Museum Reception ticket office.
