The Khashabi Theatre brings to the stage "Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah – The Epic of Bani Hilal," a legendary Arabic saga. This oral tradition, passed down since the 14th century, tells the story of the Bani Hilal tribe's migration from the Arabian Peninsula to Tunisia, and the life of Abu Zaid al-Hilali, who rose from exile to become a famous legend.
Bashar Murkus reinterpreted the epic, drawing from ancient documents, rare recordings, and Palestinian folklore aesthetics. The production revives old theatrical techniques, moving away from styles introduced during European colonialism. Seven young performers use songs, music, dance, shadow theatre, and puppets to create a theatrical festival.
The event takes place at TMP-Campo Alegre in Porto, starting on November 28, 2026, at 19:30, and running until November 29. Tickets are priced at 9€, with discounts available for groups, Porto. Card holders, students, and those over 65.
