The exhibition "LOURDES CASTRO - A VIDA COMO ELA É" showcases works by Lourdes Castro (Funchal, 1930-2022) created from the 1960s onwards. These pieces span various mediums, including editions, drawings, embroideries, and plexiglass, presented both individually and through collaborations with other artists.
The exhibition emphasizes the significance of collaborative work and the connection between art and everyday life in Castro's artistic journey. Visitors can see works contextualized by the nouveau réalisme movement, such as collages and assemblages of everyday objects, as well as posters announcing exhibitions and shadow theaters, a theme that became central to her work from the mid-1960s.
Also featured are works in plexiglass, embroidered shadow figures on sheets, and the drawing series "Sombras à volta de um centro," created in Paris (1980) and Madeira (1984/87). This exhibition is part of the Serralves Collection's Itinerant Exhibitions Program, aiming to make the foundation's collection accessible to diverse audiences across the country. It runs from September 15 to November 15, 2026, at the Galeria Municipal de Matosinhos.
