The Brotherhood is the second chapter of the Cadela Força trilogy by Carolina Bianchi, a writer, director and performer born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and based in Europe since 2020. Created with her São Paulo company Cara de Cavalo, the piece looks at pacts of masculinity, the possible origins of brotherhood and its codes, many of them responsible for perpetuating sexual violence. It also examines representation and real trauma, power structures in art, and the origins of misogyny.
The performance is presented at the Rivoli's Grande Auditório as a co-presentation with Culturgest, as part of the Alkantara programme. It is spoken in Portuguese with English subtitles, lasts 3 hours 40 minutes including a 15-minute interval, and is for ages 18 and over. The production includes strobe or intense lights and very loud sounds.
Performances are on Friday, November 20, at 21:00 and Saturday, November 21, at 17:00. Tickets cost 12€, with discounts for groups, Cartão Porto holders, students and over-65s.
